What You'll Do:
Assists director in defining agency goals, objectives & oral health priorities; advises director & other agency staff in all matters related to the overall vision, mission, & strategic direction for oral health in Ohio:
- Formulates & directs implementation of statewide oral health policies & assures that ODH oral health programs are following best clinical practices.
- Helps to set the overall vision, mission, and strategic direction for oral health in Ohio.
- Provides expertise to the ODH Medical Director's Office to ensure that sound dental public health theory and evidenced-based practices are in place to promote, support, and improve oral health for all Ohioans.
- Formulates and directs implementation of statewide oral health policies.
- Assures that ODH oral health programs are following best clinical practices.
- Seeks funding opportunities from state and national sources.
- Integrates oral health into ODH's Bureau of Maternal, Child, and Family Health and other agency departmental programs that have an oral health component.
- Develops standards of care for oral health programs funded through ODH and oversees the training, dissemination, and monitoring of compliance with these standards.
- Oversees Ohio's oral health surveillance system and analyzes and interprets oral health data and the latest developments and research in oral health and oral health care delivery (e.g., preventive dentistry, oral health epidemiology, dental treatment, oral health workforce, planning, dental care delivery systems, reimbursement, and cost containment).
- Works with outside local, state, and federal agencies and organizations, community-based dental programs, professional dental and public health organizations, dental schools, and other stakeholders to advance oral health across the lifespan.
- Communicates ODH's position on oral health legislation and issues through the development of written statements or recommendations.
- Collaborates with dentists and other strategic partners to increase the network of comprehensive dental care for uninsured patients.
This position falls within the unclassified civil service status. Employees in the unclassified civil service of the state of Ohio serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and may be removed from their unclassified position at any time for any legal reason.
Position Qualifications:
Must have licensure to practice dentistry in Ohio as issued by Ohio State Dental Board pursuant to Section 4715 of OAC AND three years' experience as a licensed dentist, or three years' experience in State Government overseeing a state program.
