Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA)
$33-36/hr
Basic Function:
The primary function of the Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) is to perform high quality work in conjunction with the doctor in accordance with approved procedures validated through the Ohio Dental Board. An EFDA allows the team to be more productive while lightening the caseload on the dentist and stepping in to help when needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a list of responsibilities associated with the EFDA but is not exhaustive nor a complete, comprehensive list of the duties required and expected of the EFDA; additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Clinical/Patient Care
- Completes approved procedures validated through the Ohio Dental Board such as placement of amalgam, composite restorations, stainless steel crowns, space maintainers, etc. in an efficient and timely manner
- Prepares treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols; marking patient in treatment in company systems
- Follows properly issued instructions/directions regarding patient flow and manages the flow of patients to schedule/maximize the doctor’s time if applicable
- Provides materials by selecting, mixing and placing materials in preparation for the doctor
- Provides diagnostic information by taking and developing radiographic images; using intra-oral cameras; pouring model casts
- Maintains patient appearance and ability to masticate by fabricating temporary restorations
- Prepare laboratory prescriptions in LabNet
Safety Focus/Equipment Maintenance/Supplies
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols including safe and clean environments
- Performs work in a safe manner at all times. Avoids shortcuts that increase health and safety risks to self or others
Communication/Teamwork/Development
- Communicates changes to co-workers and DDS and assists others when possible
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications
Requirements:
- Education/Certifications: Must have a current and active Ohio EFDA Registration and Ohio Radiology Certification
- Must have Hepatitis B Vaccinations records
- Minimum Experience: 0-2 years
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in the English language
- Must have reliable transportation
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently stands, talks, hears, and reaches with hands and arms
- Potential exposure to bodily fluids
- Occasionally lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighting up to 25 lbs.
